Black Male Health Program & Black Male Health Community Action Team

 Health Screening Outreach Initiative
The Health Screening outreach initiative of the Black Male Health program is focused on providing basic diagnostic screening to Winnebago county residents who are the most medically underserved and represent a large percentage of the health disparities in our community.
This initiative utilizes funds from the Black Male Health Program and a series of Prostate and Testicular Cancer grants (IDPH) to provide free blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and PSAs (Prostate Specific Antigen) screenings to the community. The screenings are delivered by professional health-delivery personnel and trained lay community members.
This health initiative has also been successful in creating positive, working relationships with physicians, and healthcare organizations, facilitating medical referrals as appropriate.
Through funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health, we have also launched a Prostate Cancer Awareness Program, which includes television commercial and community-based education workshops on Prostate Cancer. We also have an ongoing HIV/AIDS education and intensity campaing which is funded by Illinois Department of Public Health - Center for Minority Services.
