LAB SERVICES
The Winnebago County Health Dept. lab is certified to test for bacteria (such as e. coli and coliform) in the drinking water of private and public water wells. Testing is also done for the local municipalities through the various water departments. WCHD also tests for various chemistry abnormalities (see attached fee schedule).
PRIVATE WELL WATER TESTING - Testing kits are available for pick up at our main office at 401 Division Street in Rockford, or at various off-site locations. Click HERE for Outreach Drop Off Sites.
INSECT IDENTIFICATION - The WCHD laboratory provides free insect identification, such as insects that bite or sting, pest of flowers, fruits, stored products, forest and household pests. This service is free.
SWIMMING POOL WATER - The WCHD laboratory also provides ongoing evaluations of swimming pool waters for private and public pools. These samples are accepted on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month between 8 AM and 12 Noon with the exception of holidays. The bottles can be picked up Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM Refer to swimming pool schedule. Only WCHD approved bottles are accepted. Fee: $25 The complete Public Swimming Pool Code can be found in Chapter 50, Article VII(2).
