The doors open at 4 p.m. Registration is free and concludes at 6 p.m. During this time, students will have an opportunity to speak with college representatives. A pizza buffet will be available and a DJ will provide entertainment until the program begins. Breakout sessions start at 5:45 p.m. and the evening’s events will conclude at 8:30 p.m.; breakout session topics will include: “Education & Becoming Marketable,” “HIV Awareness,” “Sexual Responsibility” and “Tobacco, the #1 Killer.”
“Freedom Writer” Sharaud Moore’s keynote presentation will follow the breakout session. Moore will share his remarkable story of overcoming obstacles including drugs, violence/gangs, and the benefits of education. Time will be provided afterwards for questions and answers.
Youth Alcohol Abuse Prevention Coalition will also offer free giveaways of Movie Money and small personal electronic entertainment devices.
YAAPC members include the Winnebago County Health Department, Rockford School District 205, Rosecrance, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, YMCA Black & Hispanic Achievers, City of Rockford-Drug Free and the Rockford Park District.
