with the community on health subjects. Topics include public health services, programs and initiatives. Individuals can sign up to be a fan of the Health Department's Facebook page, or can view the page by logging onto
By using the social media outlet, Facebook, the Winnebago County Health Department can communicate with individuals on how to adopt healthy behaviors and help reverse the downward trend of national health statistics. Americans spend more money on health care than any other country; and as a nation we are falling behind on positive health outcomes.
Winnebago County residents can make a real difference if they commit to healthy behaviors for themselves,
their children and families. We will find real change when we shift from a health system focused on sick care to
one that strives to prevent disease and injury. Individuals and communities who adopt public health policies and practices will keep us all living healthy longer lives. By adopting healthier behaviors as a community, we can reverse the trends. Current trends indicate - American children now may live shorter lives than their parents, and nearly
1 in 3 children are overweight. It is also estimated that the average child only gets less than 15 minutes of
vigorous activity a day, said Winnebago County Health Department Administrator, Mike Bacon.
